Our 5th Darling Half Marathon with superb weather with early birds treated to a spectacular sunrise. Due to a Distemper outbreak the Doggie Dawdle was cancelled. Both races showed a nice increase in participants.

This year marks the 3rd annual Darling Half Marathon. The Darling Athletics Club is now firmly part of Western Province Athletics and they are working together to put on a great race!

May 2007
Tthe 2nd Darling Half Marathon found itself in the middle of a battle between Western Province Athletics (WPA) and Boland Athletics (BA). They were fighting over the ownership of the club and thus also the race. Despite the drama, the Darling race had more runners than either of the other 2 races that took place in the province on that day.

May 2006
Darling held its first ever half marathon and 5km fun run/walk. The first marathon attracted 400 runners, an incredible amount for a first run! This surprised authorities, as the normal entry for a first run is 150 - 200 runners.

Below are some comments from the Forum on the Runners' World web site.

"What an awesome race! Running through the cow fields avoiding the dung I found myself in a position where there was a bull on my left and a cow on my right making all sorts of sounds, I was beginning to wonder if I was going to be doing a 400m sprint to the fence in case I got in the middle of the two of them. Where else do you get the opportunity to run like that?! This race is definitely one of the highlights of my running year." - Floogle

"... did I mention the scenery, mountains, blankets of clouds, farms ... faaantastic!!!!!"- Mhb

"This race deserves the support!! Great scenery and friendly people who clearly went to a lot of effort."- M
